Big weekend for hockey

Ballinas right winger Alison Parr dribbles through heavy traffic in their first grade match against Easts on Saturday at Hepburn Park. Easts came away 2-nil winners.

Far North Coast hockey springs into action this weekend with the Under 18 Girls NSW North Half State Championships and the first round of the JH Williams Regional Hockey League sharing the facilities at Hepburn Park.

As a result, the regional competition has moved its game to Friday night to make way for more than 300 of the states brightest young women, who will be pulling on their shin guards and getting out on the synthetic at Hepburn Park this weekend. The Far North Coast has selected two teams to contest the championships the number one team (FNC 1) under coach Michael Rodda and a number two team (FNC 2) under North Coast Academy of Sport coach Ryan Campbell. The two sides are very upbeat about their chances and would welcome local support. FNC 1 play their first game on Saturday at 8am and FNC 2 kick off their campaign at 10.10am.

Meanwhile, the JH Williams Regional Hockey League will present two top quality games, with Easts and Northern Star clashing at 6.15pm on Friday night and Alstonville and Coraki following them onto the synthetic at 7.30pm.
