Citys in for a tough Challenge
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Challenge Shield is an annual rugby match between Lismore Rugby Club and Wollongbar/Alstonville Rugby Club. The match, which is a fundraiser for the Rescue Helicopter, will be held at Lismore Rugby Park this Saturday, April 22.
Lismore City currently holds the Shield and will fiercely defend it. Wollongbar Pioneers on the other hand have not held the Shield for two seasons now and are anxious get their hands on it again. The match promises to be first rate as City are still coming to terms with their shock loss to Yamba in the first round and had a bye last week. The Pioneers have won their first two encounters this year against newcomers Lennox Head and Yamba.
After the Challenge Shield match an International Schoolboy Challenge match will be played at 4.30pm. A combined Lismore and Wollongbar Under 19s team will host Mahurangi College of New Zealands first XV and Lismore 17s will play Mahurangi Colleges second team. Mahurangi College is in Warkworth, which is about 45 minutes north of Auckland. It is a co-educational school with about 1200 students. The school team is on a tour of the Australian east coast in preparation for their upcoming Schools Competition.
In the other matches of the round Yamba host premiers Ballina, Lennox host Southern Cross University and Casino host Grafton. All matches get underway at 3pm.
