Surprise winners

This painting Mango Season by Katka Adams was a winner in the Platypus Gallerys annual art prize.

Winners of the annual art prize held by the Platypus Gallery, Postcards from the Valley of Surprises, were announced at the Casino gallery last Friday evening. Richmond Valley mayor Charlie Cox and MP Steve Cansdell (who had an entry in the competition) spoke of the expanding potential of this art prize.

The Best in Show award of $500 was taken out by Katka Adams for her painting Mango Season.

Other winners included Donella McGrady for Blackboy and Jai Walker for best drawing. Best youth painting was Holli Newbiggings Jimmy and her sister Lucy Newbigging won best youth photography for her photo Streets of Coraki.

Also in photography, Casinos Lara Shaw took home the first prize in the open section for her Surprise and Cassandra-Lyn Palmer was a winner with her work Spontaneous Happenings. Kavita OBrien won in the youth section with Bushturkey.
