Ken Wray - At the net

Silly season

Straight after the Australian summer of tennis and the Australian Open we always get a major surge in junior tennis. Our coaching numbers this term are the largest I have seen at Lismore Tennis and Im getting similar feedback from coaches right across the state. Everything was rosy and then bang! the dreaded netball and soccer/football season starts and tennis loses out. Fortunately, tennis has the big advantage of being a year round sport and coupled with the fact that people can play well into later life our numbers remain relatively buoyant.

Juniors

Last Sunday a strong contingent of Lismore juniors travelled to Grafton for round three of the Junior Development Series with most players reaching quarter or semi finals. Kristy Jones was succesful in the 21 years girls event and strong performances were recorded from Bryce Devlin, Jamie Walsh and Alex Hew. A full pointscore for the series will be available this week on the website www.tennisnsw.com.au/northeasttennis.

Other locals to record impressive results over the weekend were Rosie McWilliam and Ellie Wray, who won the open ladies doubles title at Nambour in a national points tournament.
