The highway to hell

The highway to hell

Treasurer Costello has an $8 billion surplus and the NSW Government reaped $143 billion last year in fuel excise. Could this prompt our federal and state politicians to reallocate funds and complete the Pacific Highway upgrade as a matter of urgency?

With only one third of the upgrade completed, and with over 500 lives lost on this highway of death in the last 10 years alone, the NRMA demand for $8 billion to complete the upgrade within six years is to be applauded.

Politicians are displaying a callous disregard for peoples lives through their current funding policies, which will see the upgrade not completed until 2030. Their attitude to the ongoing carnage and failure to address the funding crisis are insults to voters and motorists, especially in North Coast electorates.
