View the Couch

The View From Madeleines Couch (pictured) is Australias very own Brazilian music ensemble. What makes them different to Brazilian bands is that they, a) are Australian (duh), b) have a vibraphone in the band (you dont see a lot of vibraphones in traditional Brazilian bands), and c) blend world, jazz and groove stylings into their music.

In 2004, the groups co-founders Anje West and Kym Ambrose lived in Brazil for three months and undertook extensive music studies. Upon their return they recorded their debut album Tranquilo. (Goes nicely with a daquiri...)

The View From Madeleines Couch plays bossa nova, samba, forro, a healthy serve of samba-reggae, and original Brazil-inspired songs with vocals in Portuguese.

And you can catch them at the Jazz N Blues night at the Rous Hotel in Lismore next Tuesday, March 7, from 8.30pm.

Entry is $10/7. Bring your dancin shoes.
