Julie shows off in Sydney

Julie Hood from Alstonville is off to the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April to represent the region after winning the zone 1 Miss Showgirl crown in Taree last week.

A sparkling personality and broad knowledge of country life has earned Alstonvilles Julie Hood the title of zone 1 Miss Showgirl and a shot at being crowned Sydney Royal Easter Showgirl.

The 23-year-old high school teacher from Newrybar dreamed of being named Miss Alstonville Showgirl since she was a youngster, and after scoring the crown last October, she expected that was as far as she would go. But last week in Taree Julie once again impressed the judges, scoring herself a coveted place in the Royal Easter Showgirl competition in April.

At the zone finals I couldnt stop shaking because I thought the other girls just sounded so much more confident than me when we were asked questions about the issues affecting regional Australia, Julie said. But I was a little bit older than the other girls and probably a bit more mature, and this obviously worked in my favour. When I go to Sydney Ill just try to relax and be myself and enjoy the whole experience.
