New environmental funding
Three new environmental funding programs to help revitalise the environment are being made available through the Department of Environment and Conservation.
Urban sustainability grants will aim to encourage communities, industry and government to work together to revive our community environments. Grants will support stormwater harvesting and its reuse, waste recycling and avoidance, and campaigns to prevent litter and illegal dumping as well as initiatives to restore local waterways and urban bushland.
Strategic Environmental Trust grants will fund environmental research, education, restoration and waste reduction. The Environmental Trust has a well-established history of funding environmental projects, but is now being injected with further funding to boost existing grants to restore local bushland and wetlands, environmental education, Aboriginal community programs and environmental research. Funding will also be allocated to reduce waste through recycling.
The Native Vegetation Assistance Package will help farmers adjust to the new land-clearing laws under the Native Vegetation Act 2003. The three-year Native Vegetation Assistance Package will include sustainable farming grants, exit assistance for farmers and offset pools funding.
Details can be obtained through the Department of Environment and Conservation on 131 555 or via the web at www.environment.nsw.gov.au.
