NCAHS searches for new obstetrician

Talks between North Coast Area Health Service (NCAHS) representatives and obstetrician Dr Geoff Trueman have failed to change the doctors decision to move his practice to the Gold Coast.

Dr Trueman has confirmed he will transfer his practice to John Flynn Hospital from May 1.

Due to the closure of the post-natal unit at St Vincents Hospital in Lismore Dr Trueman, who also works at Lismore Base Hospital (LBH), said he had nowhere to run his private practice. In a meeting with the NCAHS and LBH last week, management offered Dr Trueman more single rooms for his private patients, however, he did not accept the proposal.

The NCAHS and LBH will replace Dr Trueman with a locum obstetrician while advertising for a new permanent specialist to work at LBH.

Three obstetricians now remain in Lismore Dr Taylor, Dr Steel and Dr OSullivan.
