East Lismore residents got a taste of what its like to be a Northie last week when heavy rain flooded large parts of East Lismore and drains backed up, worsening the situation.

Brenda Brine had to wade through knee deep water to visit her daughter Jade and grand-daughter Luka in Avondale Avenue, just off Wyrallah Road. Jade, who has lived in Avondale Avenue for six years, said she was shocked by the sheer volume of water.

I couldnt believe it when I walked onto the verandah water was literally gushing down the street and it just kept rising, Jade said. The park at the end of the road was entirely underwater and people were moving cars up to higher ground. Were out of flood so it was a real shock Ive never seen anything like it.
