Digging through history books for years on end has earned Lismore resident Janet Jean McNaught her own place in Australias history books.

Jean, who volunteers with the Richmond-Tweed Regional Library, said when she discovered she was being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) she tingled all over.

I just couldnt believe that I would get a medal for doing what I love, Jean said. Its a wonderful honour and Im absolutely delighted.

Over the last eight years Jean has indexed more than 140,000 historical records, creating a valuable resource for anyone wanting to access some of the regions oldest memories.
