Lismore doc fined $10,000

Lismore GP Peter Stewart has closed his Conway Street surgery and retired after the NSW Medical Tribunal fined him $10,000 for over-prescribing steroids.

Dr Stewart, aged 76, is alleged to have prescribed the steroids to a number of security guards, some of whom travelled from Coffs Harbour to collect the drugs.

He was found guilty of professional misconduct and was ordered by the tribunal to retire by January 24 or face de-registration.

Dr Stewart declined The Echos requests for comment.
