Lights on Ryan

This painting Summer Lights (acrylic on canvas) is by Lesley Ryan and is part of her exhibition in Ballina.

Lesley Ryan will open her exhibition The Light Fantastique (I love it when she speaks French) at B-Framed Picture Framing (69 River Street, Ballina) this Friday, January 20, at 6.30pm.

Lesley started painting at the age of 12 and has been fascinated ever since by the way light defines the way we perceive the world.

Looking at an artists paintings is one of the few times you can understand how someone else sees the world, said Lesley. You can look through their eyes.

She chooses her medium according to the subject matter a French street scene depicted in watercolours, sunlit frangipanis in acrylics, and a soft still life in oils.

I want to show a world of beauty and light, a world to enjoy and for one moment to forget the world of dark and shade in which we now live, the artist said.

The Light Fantastique runs until February 4.
