Mama mia, its Italian National Day!

Italian National Day, which falls on June 2 and marks 62 years since the formation of the Republic of Italy, will be celebrated in Lismore with a number of festivities.

Below are events the public is invited to attend.

Monday, June 2

Lismore City Council will hold a flag raising ceremony at 10.30am followed by morning tea in the Council Chambers in Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah. This event gives Council an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Lismores Italian community to the cultural and economic development of Lismore. Wear green, red and white.

Saturday, June 7

Italian National Day Dinner/Ball at the Italo Club from 6pm. Features entertainment by Domenico & The Latin Mafia band from Brisbane plus an Italian feast, music, wine and the chance to win two nights accommodation at Surfers Paradise. Tickets are $25 pre-paid from the Italo Club and must be purchased by June 2 for catering purposes. For information phone Severino on 0419 494 819.

Sunday, June 15

An afternoon of opera at New Italy from 2pm featuring local tenor Paul McGeown and accompanist Melissa Thelt from Grafton. Italian refreshments will also be served. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for pensioners and $10 for children. Those in Richmond Valley can purchase tickets from Gina on 6662 3144 while those in Lismore can get tickets from the Lismore City Bowling Club on 6621 5991 or at Travelscene Summerland Travel in Keen Street (phone 6621 4181).
