The girls are in town

Christine Anu and Deni Hines, two pop divas, are performing together in Ballina at the end of the month.

Christine Anu and Deni Hines are probably the two most well-known female singers in this country. And theyll perform together at the Ballina RSL Club on Saturday, May 31.

The Scene caught up with Chrisine and had a little chat as she prepared for another gig with Deni on their extensive tour.

Deni and my careers started out at pretty much the same time but weve never really worked together before, Christine said from somewhere on the road. But our managers are really good friends and they thought it would be a good idea.

The blokes in the music industry industry are always collaborating and performing together, like James Reyne and Mark Seymour at the moment, but the chicks get treated like divas. Everyone is scared therell be a cat fight, Christine said with a laugh.

Christine and Deni will perform songs from their recent releases Acoustically from Christine and The Other Woman from Deni plus all their hits, from Island Home to Son of a Preacher Man.

The show is changing and developing, Christine said. Musically, were beginning to bounce off each other. The musos are starting to get to know how we perform. All round theres some serious bonding happening.

Weve been doing this show for three or four weeks. For me its been a bit of a wake-up call as far as the workload goes. Were doing lots of shows. Ive been doing a lot of corporate work so its great to be back on the road. It makes you feel alive and you remember thats why you love this job; why your fans love you.

In the two hour show, each of the girls will perform a 45-minute set of their hits and favourite songs plus therell be some special duet performances as well.

We do our own sets and we thread it with duets, Christine said. Its a great opportunity for people to see two female artists sharing the stage and the fun.

Christine Anu and Deni Hines hit the Ballina RSL Club on Saturday, May 31, at 8pm. Tickets are $25 and available from the venue (6686 2544).
