Beef Week beckons with loads of events
Despite being one of the biggest producers of soya beans in the state, Casino is yet again gearing up for its annual Beef Week celebration.
The fun starts next Tuesday, May 27, with an exploration of family history at the School of Arts at 10am, followed by a fashion show at the Casino RSM Club from 7pm.
Wednesdays events include cattle sales during the day and a gala and wine tasting at the Charcoal Inn in the evening.
The Beef Week dinner, on Thursday from 6pm, will include the presentation of the Beef Week Queen candidates along with entertainment by The McClymont Sisters.
Fridays fun kicks off with the ever-popular Beef Industry Breakfast in Walker Street, followed by cow pat lotto and milking competitions. Other events on the day include art and crafts, a race meeting at Casino racecourse and greyhound racing at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Saturdays big event will be the crowning of the 2008 Beef Week Queen at 11.30am followed by cattle judging, a show and shine car show, orchid display, woodchopping, whip cracking, bush poets and a street parade.
Sunday is a family day with draught horses, the Johnny Raper rugby league clinic, Dr Harry and Prime Possum.
After scenic bus tours of the region on Monday, Beef Week will conclude on Tuesday, June 3, with a Beef Industry Expo at the Casino RSM (morning) and the Northern Co-operative Meatworks (afternoon).
