Salvos appeal for doorknockers
Statistics show that if youve got spare change in your pocket youre part of the wealthiest eight per cent of the world, so you can probably afford to give a little (or a lot) to the Salvation Armys Red Shield Appeal this weekend.
The Salvation Armys captain Phil Sharp (pictured) says volunteers will be knocking on doors right across the region, asking people to give whatever they can whether its 50 cents or $50 to help provide a bed, blanket, meal or friendly face for those in need.
Phil is hoping to raise $70,000 locally and is asking people to become doorknockers and do your block. Its good exercise, but not too strenuous, and once the neighbours realise youre not trying to sell them a new phone contract, it can be a lot of fun.
People who are keen to collect should go to the Salvos headquarters at 32 Cambridge Drive, Goonellabah, at 8.30am on either Saturday or Sunday, May 24 or 25. Or phone Phil on 6624 1991 or 0407 579 251.
Those on the plateau can meet on Saturday, May 24, at 8.30am at Wollongbar Public School or on Sunday, May 25, at 8.30am at the Alstonville Uniting Church Preschool. For information phone Glenn Shume on 6628 0757.
