Gay cinema. Yay!

Byron Cinemas are hosting a celebration of gay screen culture with highlights from the 2008 Mardi Gras Film Festival to be screened May 16-18.

Not to be confused with Nimbins green variety, the Mardi Gras Film Festival presents the best of gay and lesbian cinema from around the world as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival.

The film festival starts this Friday, May 16, with opening night drinks from 8pm in the cinema foyer, followed by a screening of My Queer Career. This film collection brings together the finalists of the annual short film competition.

Shelter (MA 15+) then screens this Saturday at 4.30pm and Clapham Junction (R 18+) at 7pm.

And finally, a chick flick with a difference from Canada Finns Girl (R 18+) screens this Sunday at 4.30pm.

Tickets for opening night are $20 including drinks. Saturday and Sunday tickets are $12.50/10 and available from Byron Cinemas (6680 8555).
