Flower mum with affection

Instead of giving mum flowers this Mothers Day, why not take her along to the Mothers Day Orchid Spectacular at the Ballina RSL and let her choose her own unique orchid that will far outlive any bunch of cut flowers.

There will be champions galore on display at the Orchid Spectacular, along with a presentation to prize winers, sales of orchid plants, and the chance to talk orchids with experienced growers.

This years show will also include displays and sales of bromeliads and other plants, local coffee, olives, condiments and dips, spices, macadamias and more.

Its a lovely outing and a chance to buy mum a truly spectacular flower that she can enjoy for years to come, Far North Coast District Orchid Council vice-president Laurie Mountford said. The Ballina RSL has been refurbished, so you can enjoy a lunch with mum in a beautiful river-side setting as well as the show.

The Orchid Spectacular is on next Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday, May 11, from 10am to 3pm. Entry is free.

For more information phone Laurie on 6686 7105.

On the Sunday at about 12.30pm the Far North Coast District Orchid Council will present an orchid to Petria Thomas in recognition of her achievements and it will be named on the day in honour of her. The orchid will be accepted by Petrias mother as Petria has other commitments.
