Coraki to provide bass comp

John Bryant and Gary Chidgey with two large kingfish caught off Evans Head recently.

In last weeks column I mentioned the Bass Mini Bucks competition held at Maroon Dam in Queensland. A similar event will be held at Coraki on May 4. Last year more than 60 anglers took part and organisers are hoping for a similar turnout. There will be great cash prizes, lucky draws and a raffle. This is a very friendly, social day with the aim of raising money to maintain the stock of bass in the Richmond/ Wilsons river system. The outing begins at 5.30am with a sign-on and ends at noon with a BBQ. The entry fee is $20, with all proceeds going to restocking the local rivers. The last Coraki event raised $600.

The area offshore from Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg includes the Capricorn Bunker Island Group and the Swain Reefs complex and is one of the most popular fishing destinations in Australia. Motherships, laden with dinghies, head out of port each week from the popular Queensland spot. Hundreds of anglers bring home many kilos of the best eating fish in the sea such as coral trout and emperor from these fishing grounds. I know of a group going in June that has a couple of vacancies. It really is one of the best trips you can do. If you would like details of the dates and costs phone Max on 6686 7976.
