Painted dreams and wild seas

Sea of Dreams at Armisteads Gallery in Wyrallah Road, Lismore, is an investigation into the importance of dreams.

The works by Philippa Leader are based on mysterious sleep, the Billen Cliffs community where she lives, and a childhood appreciation of myths and legends.

The paintings and poems that are part of the show make no attempt to be rational narratives but are glimpses into a wild inner realm.

The recurring theme is that of the striving, young, naive adventurer.

I believe that the journey of life requires us to be bold, Philippa said. My work is a visual affirmation about the keys to fulfilment that we carry within ourselves.

Aside from their literal content, the paintings are a colourful celebration of paint.

Sea of Dreams runs until April 30.
