Only the lonely in Ballina

Is it a Byrd? Is it a Cobain? No, its Roy! (or Athol Matcham at least...)

The Big O legend lives on in the Roy Orbison show starring Athol Matcham at Ballina RSL on Friday, April 18.

Athol has the vocal ability to recreate the magic that propelled Roy Orbison to fame and thats no mean feat, given the distinctiveness of the Big Os voice.

The world has many Roy Orbison tribute shows but not many performers have the vocal range that made Roy Orbison unique. Athol Matcham reckons he does.

...and the very few that have just dont sound like the Big O, nor do they have the precision that was one of his trademarks. I know the audience will find it hard to pick the difference, Athol said.

At his Ballina gig Athol will include all of Orbisons best loved songs in a montage of memories from the 60s and 70s.

Orbison was renowned for his distinctive tenor voice and vocal crescendos heard in such songs as Only the Lonely and Crying. He was also known for rock and roll songs like Oh Pretty Woman and Working for the Man, and romantic ballads such as Running Scared and In Dreams. Theyre all included in Athols show.

Tickets for Athol Matchams Roy Orbison Candlelight Dinner and Show at the Ballina RSL are $39.90 and include a two-course dinner and show. To book phone 6686 2544.
