Academy names netballers

Eight local girls have been selected as part of the 18 member North Coast Academy of Sport Netball squad. The program, which was launched last Saturday in Lismore, inducted local stars Lauren Bryant, Jeya Duroux, Rachael Elmslie, Zoe Goodsell-Dundas, Alexandra Lee, Brittany McLeod, Marnie Sironen and Talia Smith into the elite training team.

Underpinning this main squad is a group of associate players who will be called upon to take the place of any athletes who are sick or injured. The associates include Lauren Sculley from Skennars Head and Madeleine Walsh from Ballina.

The first training session at Southern Cross University involved a meet and greet followed by a series of fitness tests. The squad will meet for monthly camps until October in Lismore, Grafton, Lennox Head and Coffs Harbour.
