Stand up if you can ...

This brave bunch of seniors is a group of newish stand-up comedians ready to make you laugh this Seniors Week in Lismore.

Next week is Seniors Week. If youre expecting to celebrate the older folks contribution with some sweet little Bingo ladies humming along to morning melodies then youre in for a big surprise.

Comedienne Mandy Nolan has taught 12 seniors from Ocean Shores to Lismore the not-so-gentle art of stand-up comedy. The men and women, who range in age from 63 to 80, have drawn on their life experiences, their wisdom, their mistakes, their struggles and their triumphs to create dynamic and engaging routines.

The Shooting From My Hip Replacement (thats the workshops and shows name) crew had their first performance at The Big Joke Comedy Festival a month ago to an appreciative audience who were amazed at what this courageous bunch of novice performers had achieved.

The project strongly echoes the Seniors Week theme of Live Life, as the performers all embrace stand-up comedy as if they were born to it.

The group had an absolute ball in their three-day workshop where they learnt the basics of stand- up comedy and Mandy helped them create their own personalised routines to be performed for Seniors Week this year.

Shooting From The Hip Replacement is MCd by Mandy Nolan and will be performed at Lismore City Hall on Wednesday, April 9, at 11am. A morning tea will be provided from 10am.

Entry is $2 and bookings can be made by phoning 6622 0300.
