Ballina croq-a-hoop

The Ballina Croquet Club swept aside all opposition in this years Northern Rivers Handicap tournament, winning every eventand being the runner-up in most.

Ballina provided the majority of entrants, thanks to the surgeof interest in the game enhanced by the recent opening of the new lawns and clubhouse.

Ballinas Jean Hill narrowly defeated fellow seasider Helen Gavin (pictured) and Casinos Bev Birningham in the top grade competition. Ballinas Glad Ryan gave an outstanding performance, winning both her singles and doubles events, and all of her singles games. Although it was her first time in the competition, Ballinas Morna Borwicks years of experience came to the fore when she won her singles (winning all games) and was runner-up in the doubles. The novices event was closely contested with Leonie Oliver defeating Lismores Ray Seymour.
