Hughes settles into five-eighth

Although the Brisbane Barbarians took away the annual Steve Tava Trophy from their clash with Lismore City on Saturday, Citys new five-eighth, Steve Hughes, (pictured) looked well and truly at home as distributer. Flicking passes and kicking in behind the line, the former flier could well have a major impact for City in his new role when the season gets going after Easter.

The Barbarians won 30 to 25 scoring 6 tries to 5 in a fast and free-flowing match.

Dolphins go down to New England

The Far North Coast Dolphins held out against New England in Armidale to be down only 13-nil with five minutes left on the clock. But that was all the petrol they had left in the tank as the big country boys put on two late tries to win 27-0.

The Dolphins finish up their campaign in the battle to ward off the wooden spoon as they take on Mid North Coast in Coffs Harbour this Saturday at 4pm.
