By the time this article goes to press you will have heard that the local river is open to fishing for both recreational and commercial anglers. The closure was not for very long this time, which seems to indicate that the river recovered a lot better and quicker than in 2001. There are still some politicians and environmentalists (and even some anglers) who believe it is too early, but like most things in life today there are several sides to all stories and generally quite a lot of controversy. Already there are some good reports of mud crabs around Ballina, along with bream from the south wall. To date reports of flathead and bass are not to hand. Once again the sea has been up and kept all but a few hardy anglers from venturing into the ocean. Dont forget that we need your photographs. They can be dropped into The Echo office or emailed to email@example.com.
