Mandy to MC Greatest Shave
Comedienne Mandy Nolan (pictured) will be throwing her wit around at the 10th anniversary Worlds Greatest Shave for a Cure in Lismore on Saturday, March 15, after signing up as MC for the day.
A stage will be set up at Lismore Shopping Square for the event and Mandy will provide commentary as people shave or colour their hair to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Her decision to donate her time and talent for the charity event was for very personal reasons.
Last year a dear friend of mine who lived in Lismore died of leukemia, Mandy said. I was amazed by his incredible courage in facing the disease. Shaving your head takes guts, but battling leukemia takes a quiet courage. It reminded me that inside every human being is a super hero.
Now is the time to register for the Worlds Greatest Shave for a Cure, which originated in Lismore in 1998 when 200 people gathered at Lismore Square to shave their heads. That very first shave raised $80,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation and local organisers are determined to top that target in 2008. To sign up, phone 1800 500 088 or visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com.
Co-ordinators of the shave are looking for hairdressers who can shave and colour peoples hair on the day. If you can help out, phone Loma Willis on 0409 874 643 or Cathy Mooney on 0405 022 121.
