Behind the 8 Ball

Aint this a great pic? 8 Ball Aitken is on the North Coast doing a series of gigs. Go along and check out his hair.

8 Ball Aitken spent much of 2007 trotting around the globe, guitar (and banjo) in hand. He performed in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville on his first American tour. 8 Ball also completed his third tour of Japan, and did two tours of Fiji. (It takes three hours to tour Fiji...)

He played at major festivals around Australia.

He spent a month in Sydney recording his upcoming album with Garth Porter and then toured the east coast.

He even chatted with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at a Christmas party (suggesting ideas on foreign policy. And swapping drummer jokes.)

8 Ball has been bridging the gap between the worlds of country music and the blues, creating a 21st century Aussie fusion of original roots music styles.

One thing that international touring shows me is that Australia really is a beaut country. Im proud of our Australian culture, and I sing in an Aussie accent, about Australian places and Australian people, the singer said.

The former banana picker and hippie from far north Queensland plays the Nimbin Hotel this Friday, February 22, from 7.30pm; the Bangalow Hotel this Saturday, February 23, from 8pm; The Rails in Byron this Sunday, February 24, from 6pm; and the Lennox Point Hotel on Saturday, March 1, from 9.30pm.
