Its RAW time
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, with the support of Triple J, is calling for entries for the 2008 RAW Comedy competition. Undiscovered comic geniuses across the country have only a matter of weeks to sign themselves up for heats in their area.
Last year Ellen Briggs, a mum from Mullumbimby, found herself on stage at Melbournes Town Hall performing to over 2,000 people and televised around the country to hundreds of thousands more. Pretty amazing for a girl who started her gagging career at the Byron Bowlo heats.
RAW Comedy is Australias biggest open mic comedy competition. Competing in nearly 75 heats across the country, performers are selected by a panel of judges to most likely become the next big thing.
The lucky jokesters then progress through a series of semi and state finals, before slugging it out at the national grand final at the Melbourne Town Hall as part of the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in March.
The grand final winner is then flown to the Edinburgh Fringe for their chance to joke around with comedys big guns.
The two heats in the Northern Rivers area are at the Byron Services Club on Monday, February 25, and on Monday, March 10.
