Young musician Olympic-bound

Alstonville High School year nine student Lachlan McLennan (pictured) and three other Northern Rivers high school students are Beijing-bound this year as members of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Orchestra.

Joining Lachlan in the NSW contingent of public school students are Casino High School students Madison Yates and Logan Phelps and Ballina High Schools Melissa Cork. The Olympic Orchestra will bring together 2,000 young performers from all over the world for two weeks of rehearsals and performances at Olympic events and venues in August.

Ballina Shire Council has donated $300 towards Lachlans travel and accommodation costs.
