Peate to sail world stage

Ballinas Nick Peate has been selected in the Australian Sailing team to compete at the Youth Sailing World Championships in Denmark in July.

Peate and sailing partner Rhys Mara (who was also selected in the national squad) secured their places in the 29er class team after performing well in the two major events; the Australian 29er Championships and the 29er World Championships, which were both held in Victoria in late December.

In the Open Age Australian 29er Championships, the two North Coast Academy of Sport sailors, in their boat Ocean Dynamics, finished second, just one point behind the Australian champions.

Two days later in the 29er World Championships the pair, after a number of mishaps, dropped from second overall to finish 12th.

The experience and results of our first World Championships amongst world class open age sailors was a great way to finish what has been an extremely successful couple of months of solid sailing for us, said Peate Despite still being in the youth division, we have been able to show that we are up there with the best in the country and the world in open-age competition.
