Mexican muso Victor Valdes will lead the mariachi band The Real Mexico in a night of red hot Mexican music in Lismore soon.

The Real Mexico has been performing in Sydney since 1998. Leader Victor Valdes relocated to Sydney that year from his hacienda in the land of tequila and cactus worm.

With local talent from leading Mexican and Latin American musicians, as well as other musicians from various backgrounds, he put together Australias first authentic Mexican mariachi band The Real Mexico.

(So, what is mariachi? The mariachi is originally from the state of Jalisco in Mexico. It is the most well known genre of Mexican traditional music and uses trumpets, violins, guitars, viheulas [Mexican guitar], guitarron [Mexican bass] and a Mexican harp.)

Victor Valdes and The Real Mexico will perform a concert of popular Mexican songs at the Star Court Theatre in Lismore on Saturday, December 22, from 7.30pm.
