Cool, calm and congratulated

Northern Rivers Regional Senior Volunteer of the Year, Jill Hepburn, with Lismore mayor Merv King and friends from the Lismore Neighbourhood Centre and the Richmond Rovers Soccer Club.

Being cool, calm and collected in the face of any crisis is one of the big reasons why Jeannette Tyler from the Lismore Neighbourhood Centre decided to nominate Goonellabahs Jill Hepburn for the 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Jill, who was last week named the Northern Rivers Regional Senior Volunteer of the Year, has volunteered at the Lismore Neighbourhood Centre for eight years, working in the community aid and information service, organising welfare, assisting in the filing of divorce papers and mentoring other volunteers coming through the ranks. All up she has been volunteering in the region for 20 years and is also a life member of the Richmond Rovers Soccer Club and president of the Over 50s Learning Centre.

As part of her role at the Neighbourhood Centre Jill often has to deal with people feeling stressed or worried just her forte, according to Jeannette.

There is an equanimity about Jill she doesnt get flustered by anything and just takes things in her stride. Ive never seen her stressed and shes just an all-round good organiser and communicator, said Jeannette. I know the soccer club couldnt live without her and neither could we. She has many roles in various organisations but she does something for the community every single day.
