McLeans Ridges proposal deferred

The McLeans Ridges Community Group was given a stay of execution on Tuesday night when Lismore City Council deferred public exhibition of the controversial rezoning plan for their neighbourhood.

Council deferred the issue until February after it became clear that councillors would be signing off on a proposal that wasnt finished. Debate revolved around whether it was appropriate for staff to add the Social Impact Assessment and up-to-date population and traffic numbers after Council had agreed for it to go on public exhibition.

McLeans Ridges resident John Mulholland raised the issue during public access, saying it would be improper to put the proposal on public exhibition when important data was missing.

How can we sign off on something we havent even seen? Cr Dowell said. After all, weve being working on this rezoning for five years. Whats a couple of extra weeks to make sure we get it right?
