Dont spend Boxing Day alone
If you havent had an invite to a Christmas party this year then here it is Darcy Goodwin from the Five Loaves Mobile Soup Kitchen would love the pleasure of your company for lunch on Boxing Day!
On December 26 Darcy will hold a special lunch at Lismores Peace Park, with a spread of lovely food and presents for children. Its also a great chance to meet new people.
A lot of people miss out at Christmas time because of financial difficulty, homelessness, lack of government support or family breakdown, said Darcy. The Boxing Day lunch is all about coming together to forget your worries for a while, sit outdoors and enjoy a meal, and maybe play a game of football in the park. Its a warm atmosphere and the fellowship is as important as the food we all deserve a bit of happiness at Christmas time.
Darcy said people who come to him in times of trouble for free food often end up turning their life around and stay on as volunteers.
I have watched many people go from feeling depressed and lonely to feeling good about themselves, all because theyve been given the chance to be part of something worthwhile, Darcy said. Its extraordinary what a little kindness can achieve all people are beautiful if you treat them with respect.
The Boxing Day lunch is on December 26 at 2pm in Lismores Peace Park, on the corner of Keen and Ballina Streets. Everyone is welcome.
Darcy has been providing free lunches and dinners to people on the North Coast for the last 19 years, and this is his fifth Boxing Day lunch. He would like to thank the hundreds of businesses and individuals who have made donations throughout 2007 and wish everyone a very merry Christmas.
