Classic catches on the way

Local fishing reports have been encouraging with reports of good sized flathead around Ballina and Pimlico. It is good to see the large sized ones being released as they are all females and a fish of 40 to 50cm is always far better eating in any case. The new moon should bring the whiting on the bite but with all the rain the water changed colour and some of the favourite spots were not suitable. Thats not to say the fish arent about, they just happen to be closer to the coast. The preferred bait is yabbies or worms and if you fish with these on the North Wall at Ballina you should be in for a good catch. Closer into Shaws Bay is the best spot.

Next Sunday, November 25, is the first of four classic events for all local anglers. The Bass Catch gets going at Coraki from 6am, with $600 in prize money up for grabs for the three heaviest bags of two bass. The fish must be weighed in alive and after judging swim away. Entry is on the day and is $20 for seniors and $10 for juniors.

Lunch will be available while the weigh-in is happening.
