Festival of the foot

The local AFL community is gearing itself up for the biggest day on its calendar when it holds its annual Footy Fest day this Sunday, April 1, at Mortimer Oval in Lismore from 10am.

The day is set to promote AFL in this area with football games for anyone up to Under 16, plus a heap of raffles, a jumping castle and give-aways.

We are trying to promote AFL in this area and this day is specifically for that. said Jordan Stotter, president of the FNC Junior AFL. It is primarily to give kids from Under 8s to Under 16s an opportunity to try out AFL for free. If they like it they can find out about a local club, if not, everyone has had some fun and are a little wiser.

The biggest draw card during the day is the opportunity to participate in the World Record handball attempt.

We are very excited to be able to set this record and see if anyone from traditional AFL states can break it. Jordan said. We will like to see them try. What a coup for the area to be able to offer this chance for our local kids to be part of something like this.

The Kangaroos AFL team will have a promotional tent on the day, as will all local junior teams and a senior information spot for the adults.

The junior competition kicks off on Sunday, April 22 and seniors on April 15.
