Police are appealing for public help after a seriously injured 26-year-old Queensland man was found lying unconscious at a home in River Street, Ballina, in the early hours of Saturday morning. Ambulance paramedics rushed to the home at around 5am after a triple-O call and took the man, suffering a fractured skull and broken pelvis, to Ballina Hospital. He was later transferred to Lismore Base Hospital before being airlifted to Brisbanes Princess Alexandra Hospital where he was placed in an induced coma and remains in a critical condition. Two men have been charged with the robbery of a 19-year-old man in Simpson Avenue, Wollongbar, and with entering a dwelling in James Street, Lismore, with intent, on Saturday afternoon. In the first instance at around 2.30pm, a 19-year-old Wollongbar man was assaulted and robbed of money and food while he walked along Simpson Avenue. Then at 3.40pm, the two men entered premises in James Street through an open door and threatened a 48-year-old male resident. One of the two was armed with a knife and the other had his face disguised. A 21-year-old Ballina man and an 18-year-old Lennox Head man were charged as a result and both have been bailed to appear in Ballina Court on April 26.
A 19-year-old Lismore woman was charged with mid-range drink-driving after she was involved in a collision at the intersection of Ballina Road and Rous Road, Goonellabah, late on Monday night. She was also charged with driving while disqualified.
Motorists are warned to remove valuables from their vehicles after a 39-year-old Lennox Head woman had her mobile phone stolen from her parked car in Patricia Parade, Lennox Head, at the weekend.
