The Dolphins go down

Nuggety Far North Coast and NSW Country fly half Luke Sullivan ran with great determination in the opens match against New England at Maurie Ryan Oval in Lismore on Saturday but found it impossible to crack the New England line.

The Far North Coast Dolphins lost the first round of the NSW Country Championship to New England 14-nil thanks to the more mobile tableland pack.

The Armidale men crossed once in each half in the rugged forward affair. On the rare occasion that the local men managed to get the ball out wide, Brent Cockraine looked sharp but poor handling ruined his only chance.

Meanwhile, in the Under 20s James Wivell kicked his team to victory with five penalty goals, in very gusty conditions. The big left footer secured the young men from the Far North Coast a 15-13 win on the bell.

In the other match, the Maurie Ryan Invitational XV defeated the Combined Villages XV 19-12 in the inaugural Macadamia Industry Cup.
