Brown and Lampe light up the field

Local triathletes Rachel Brown of Alstonville and Joseph Lampe of Lennox Head (pictured) have returned from NSW All-Schools Triathlon Championships in Penrith as state triathlon champions.

The pair, who both train under North Coast Academy of Sport coach Justin Drew, are the first local athletes to achieve the top ranking in the state.

Joseph started the day well leading the field out of the water, maintaining that position throughout the ride although the chase group did close on his tail. Joseph then stamped his class on the event by running away from the field to win by almost a 100m.

Rachel started her race well, moving into second on the back of a powerful swim leg, then held her own in the ride, going on to burst away in the run to win by a full minute.

Rachel and Joseph will now move on to compete in the National All Schools Championships in Canberra on March 19-22.
