Glory for Lismores Little Athletics

Fifteen of Lismores finest junior athletes have qualified for the State Little Athletics Championships after a host of stella performances in the Region-4 Championships in Newcastle last weekend.

Heading the list of top performers, Mathew Payne broke the Region-4 record in the 800m, 1500m and 400m (Under 13 division) with Jesse Casson picking up bronze for both the Under 8 boys shot put and discus. Meanwhile, Under 13 Ruby Wheatley beat off the challenge of local Ballina athlete Amanda Jennings to win the shot put with a throw of 11.75m. Georgina Wheatley won the Under 10 girls discus with a throw of 24.31m and her older sister Amber finished in third place in the under 15 girls discus.

Personal bests also came from race walkers Madison Riley and Zoe Dundas, and high jumpers Courtney Linton, Nirvana Makings, Samantha Kerr and Amanda Kerr.

At a local level the Lismore Little Athletics Centre only has two weeks left in the current summer season with the cross country program commencing on Sunday mornings in mid April. Anyone interested in participating in these weekly events should phone 6624 8553 or 0401 259 313.
