Free health course for seniors

Stay active, Stay independent the North Coast Area Health Services free seven-week health program for seniors is back again this year by popular demand.

The course helps retirement aged people living in the community to maintain their independence and prevent falls by teaching gentle exercise and providing information on nutrition, environmental safety, medications, vision and footwear.

The course is also a great way to make new friends.

Anna Wuttie, 70, who relocated from Port Macquarie to Goonellabah, said as well as the physical and mental challenge, she loved the social aspect of the course, which helped her overcome the challenges of meeting people in a new town.

The time went so fast each week and everyone felt it was sad when the course ended, she said. The staff really care and I have never met older people like that. It took the loneliness away.

The course is free and will run on Fridays throughout March from 1-3.30pm, beginning March 2 at the Carroll Centre at St Vincents Hospital.
