Jazzy Jules rules

Jules Kelly (pictured) puts on regular (and non-regular) jazz gigs across the Northern Rivers. Over the last 12 years she has given Lismore a delicious smorgasbord of jazz delicacies through the weekly Jazz N Blues gigs in Lismore. Good on you, Jules. Maybe theyll give you a medal or something. You deserve it. Maybe the government will make you an ambassador to New Orleans as payment for the years of tireless effort youve put into listening to good live music and drinking wine. Commitment counts.

Anyway, the Jazz N Blues at the Rous Hotel in Lismore kicks off its first gig of the year with the irrepressible Jim Kelly and his Thrillseekers. This is hot jazz with some of the areas finest jazzists.

And jazz aficionados can look forward to visiting acts like Afro Dizzi Act, the Return of Crossfire and the Ben Winklemen Trio at future Jazz N Blues gigs.

Entry to 2007s first Jazz N Blues gig next Tuesday, February 27, is $10/7. The gig starts at 9pm.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
