Strange little gigs

The Strange Little Girls are a visually arresting band. And their sound is as startling and exciting as their look. They rock. And frock.

Last year the band established itself as one of the regions hottest acts, taking out the Queensland final of the Jim Beam National Campus Band Competition (they placed second in the national final).

Armed with a swag of new songs, new haircuts and stage antics, they aim to recruit unsuspecting punters into their legion of fans.

The Strange Little Girls play the Standard Hotel in Lismore with Dread Circus and Diana Anaid next Wednesday, February 21, from 9pm; the Winsome Hotel in Lismore with local singer songwriter Moz next Thursday, February 22, at 9pm (entry is $5); and in the Goodman Plaza at SCU (as part of Orientation Week) on Friday, February 23, from 12-2pm.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
