Flip out for charity on Pancake Day

Theres nothing quite like a good pancake, especially when you can munch away knowing youre raising dough for a worthwhile cause.

The fifth annual Pancake Day is being held next Tuesday, February 20, and while its a national fundraiser, all money raised from the local event goes back into supporting the local UnitingCare Ageing group (better known as Caroona) and the Lismore Regional Mission.

February 28 is Shrove Tuesday and the beginning of Lent that whole period has to do with sacrifice and we are asking people to make a sacrifice of money and help the disadvantaged in our community, said Reverend Bob Rutherford from Lismore Uniting Church. And its not that much of a sacrifice you do get a delicious pancake in return!

The cost is $2 per pancake or two for $3 and orders can be made on the day to 6621 5801.

Businesses can also fax orders through to 6621 5051 on Monday, February 19 ($20 minimum order) and the pancakes will be delivered to your door on Tuesday.

Alternatively, people can drop by the outdoor caf at the Lismore Uniting Church courtyard (corner of Keen and Woodlark streets, Lismore) from 8am-1pm and enjoy delicious pancakes with friends on the spot.

Say thanks for giving

Whether its an SES worker fixing guttering in the pouring rain, a firefighter risking his life to save someone from a blaze or a hospital chaplain helping someone find peace within, emergency service personnel are constantly giving their time for others.

And often their hard work and bravery goes unnoticed.

This Sunday, February 18, is the annual Service of Thanksgiving a special day organised by the chaplains and pastoral care team at St Vincents and Lismore Base hospitals to thank these people for their enormous contributions.

It will be held at the Life Saver Rescue Helicopter base in Brunswick Street, Lismore, at 2.30pm, followed by an afternoon tea. Everyone is encouraged to attend and give their thanks.
