North Coast Academy of Sport

Our elite juniors had there first training squad last weekend at Coffs Harbour. The academy squad brings together the top 20 boys and girls from 12 years of age up to 18 years. These juniors are taken from our tennis development centres situated through out the region.

Once again the academy squads show one of the unique attributes of tennis as it allows both boys and girls to train and play together, something lacking in many other sports.

Glenn Innes Open

This weekend around 30 local junior and senior players will be heading up the mountain to play in the annual Glenn Innes tournament. The Glenn Innes event is a great weekend of tennis played in a competitive but truly social atmosphere. Lismore girls Rosie McWiliam, Kristy Jones and Ellie Wray will all be hard to beat in the Open Ladies singles while Luke Edwards, also from Lismore, will be the favourite to take out the mens event with Nathan Moore (Lismore) and Paul Denning from Alstonville expected to provide strong opposition. Luke has just returned from a successful tour playing tournaments in Shepparton, Albury and Brisbane. Other locals expected to perform strongly include Craig Hosking and Steve Clarke while Stella McWilliam, Taylor Moore and Jack Clarke will give a good account of themselves.

Ladies tennis

This Tuesday morning the local ladies competition gets back on court at Lismore Tennis Centre. Any new ladies looking for some tennis in a fun atmosphere can come down to the courts after 9am on a Tuesday to register. Anyone looking for info can contact John at the courts on 6621 3417.
