Hospital upgrade gains planning approval

The long-awaited Lismore Base Hospital upgrade was given planning approval yesterday in a state government announcement concerning five hospital upgrades throughout NSW. While funding had already been approved for the upgrade, yesterdays announcement means the state government has now approved the Development Application.

North Coast Area Health Service spokesperson Robin Osborne said the site had now been cleared and prepared and building work was set to commence.

On the ABC website Planning Minister Frank Sartor denied he had rushed the planning approvals through ahead of the March state election.

Its just another step in the governments commitment, he said. It just demonstrates weve dealt with these things, dealt with them properly and theyre now available to the Health Department to be built.
