Locals should pick up after holidays

As most of the visitors to our region headed home last weekend I expect that the fishing should pick up for the locals. There have been some fair reports of flathead on plastics and lures upstream of Wardell, whiting from around Pimlico and some nice school jewies from around the same area. Many of these have come from the bank on live bait. The bass reports from Coraki to Casino have also been encouraging.

Last week we were discussing the water shortage in western NSW and the low level of the dams. Although this is disturbing it does not seem to be adversely affecting the fishing as reports in from Glen Lyon and Keepit have been good. Some nice cod at Glen Lyon (which is actually in Queensland) with the stories from Keepit being about Yellow Belly (Golden Perch).

The NSW elections are only a few weeks away so I want to remind all anglers to ask their local members where they stand on some of the matters affecting fishing in NSW such as sanctuary areas in Marine Parks. The election will be won or lost on the big issues that affect us all such as health, education, roads, water etc, but there is an opportunity to send a message to the Upper House that anglers are not happy about the current situation.
