Right writing

The Aspects of the Novel series of writing workshops in Byron started with the Getting Started workshop with Leigh Redhead. The workshop was so popular the Northern Rivers Writers Centre (NRWC) ran it twice.

Momentum is building for the second workshop in the series, Character Building, with Marele Day on February 24.

New writers who find a yawning abyss where their characters should be are sometimes told to keep writing and not to panic, someone will arrive.

This workshop will hasten that arrival and help aspiring writers drive their story forward with strong, credible characters.

Marele explores ways to invent convincing characters, to develop and get to know these invisible friends and bring them to life on the page through dialogue, narrative voice and point of view.

Marele Day is a successful writer and an in-demand workshop presenter around the country. Shes the author of the Claudia Valentine mysteries and her latest novel, Mrs Cook: the Real and Imagined Life of the Captains Wife, was published in 2002.

Character Building will be held on Saturday, January 24, in Byron Bay. Cost is $55 for NRWC members, and $70 for non-members. Bookings are essential. Phone the Writers Centre on 6685 5115 or email
